Alpine Meadows announced a new program to expand it’s offerings and bring in greater crowds. After expanding parks to fill larger areas of the mountain – it only makes sense to promote use of the park by an entirely new market segment. Based on complaints from “dinosaurs” on Fakebook, it was clear that people over 55 may just need to be convinced that “parks are where it’s at.” It’s certainly an unexpected marketing angle.
According to Alpine’s website, skiers and boarders aged 55 and older may participate in weekly clinics. Here’s the marketing speak:
Adventure 55 is a program designed specifically for skiers age 55+ who want to unlock the secrets to the latest in ski/snowboard technique and design. New skills, new friends and a new effortless and efficient
way of skiing/riding awaits all participants
That sure sound like “Seniors In The Park” to me! Kudos to the creative marketing team at Alpine Meadows. They just may be on to something.

Clinics are offered Tuesdays from 9:30 until noon. The cost is $99 or $79 with a three day advanced purchase. Get the complete story at SkiAlpine.com.
Well now they are making me feel good!!! I’m not even old enough to participate. I guess I’m not a dinosaur after all! I think I’m going to show up with my video camera, I think the prize on America’s Funniest Video awaits me!
Whoa there…note the tongue in cheek tags 🙂 Reportedly they have 80 people signed up for tomorrow. Glad to see Alpine being proactive about bringing more people to the mountain.
It’s now quite clear the terrain park supporters are those of the younger generation who view ancient history of something along the line of when Summit Chair was a slow double chair. And don’t even ask them about the old Scott’s Meadow T bar. More importantly based on their comments they can barely type a coherent sentence. Sometimes I wonder if they are using a new form of English. Anyhow, they want to teach us how to ski??!! We know this mountain better then they ever will as some of us used cable bindings and straight skis long ago. If you can use that equipment you can ski anywhere at Alpine. I’d make a counter offer. We offer a clinic in ski area management as it’s clear outside of the grooming department, lift ops and the ski patrol the present management has lost touch of the core operations that Alpine used to understand.
Again, note my tongue in cheek tags. I know a couple of guys that are instructing for this clinic and they are the real deal. Alpine has some every experienced instructors that offer great clinics. Some of the younger ones do a good job with park coaching too. Again, glad to see Alpine reaching out to markets other than park rats. Now if we can just get affordable kids tickets and kids team pricing…
I did notice the tongue in cheek tags. And I still stand by my counteroffer. Please note no tongue in cheek tag!
Actually the terrain parks are a great change – no one uses them, so it’s a great place to avoid boarders and other skiers and ski slowly around those big bumps with the green things hanging out of them. i still wonder how they got there?
