Excellent Grooming…Spring Is Here

Hello Skiers and Riders,

Skiing groomed runs at Alpine Meadows this morning with the mountain sprinkled with a few early morning guests proved to be a joyous experience.  Corduroy was liberally created on the surface of most our favorite slopes.  With just a few other people on the mountain, we were able to make some pretty fast runs in Alpine Bowl, Sunspot, Wolverine, D8, and Terry’s Return on the upper mountain.  Although the sun was shining out of a bright blue sky, the early morning temperatures and slight wind kept the off piste surface firm.

The corduroy was not perfectly soft winter snow, but I was able to easily hold an edge on all but the steepest groomed slopes (and this is with edges that have not been sharpened in a long time).

Later in the morning and early this afternoon, the sun warmed our air into the mid forties.  Although I was unable to stay into the afternoon, my guess is that south facing slopes softened nicely.  Sherwood should have been the place to ski late in the morning where I suspect spring skiing would have existed.  This condition most likely spread to Scott and Lakeview in the afternoon.

If feels like spring today, but that can change at anytime.  Skiing remains pretty good with warmer temperatures sure to increase enjoyment of the off piste slopes.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
