Cold Temperatures = Great Snow

  • by

The nice thing about the chilly temps around Tahoe this week is that the snow is staying in great condition. We even had some bonus snow showers last night to freshen things up for the weekend. The groomers were looking fantastic this morning, with places groomed that rarely see a groomer.

But skiing was not about groomers today as there was still powder a plenty for those willing to make a hike or a traverse. We did three laps out High Traverse this morning, finding snow that was close to bottomless with few scratchy turns beneath. Evidently this week’s little storm added up to a bit more than some of us expected.

Where to go, where to go, freshies in every direction.

For those not wanting to hike, there was plenty of cut up soft powder available too. We made a lot of fun turns in East Peril, Secret Spot, the Promised Land and Gentian Gully. Some of the biggest grins came while meadow skipping in low angle pow on the way back to Subway.

One bonus was found today on the groomers. With nobody ever exiting the upper terrain park above Rock Garden, the skiers right half of Rock Garden remained wide open for big arced lines today on the return to Scott chair. We also found a nice sneaker pow line this morning along the terrain park fence line on Lower Sympathy. The park was empty again today.

With cold temps tonight, it will all be good again tomorrow. Squaw might be better 😉
