Happy New Year

Hello Skiers and Riders,

I suppose the skiing could always be better, but this week has been one of the best that I can remember.  Cold temperatures have kept the snow surface in excellent condition.  Of course, moguls are growing larger each day, and some of the off piste slopes are firming up.  However, north facing slopes remain in Colorado condition.  New Years day found the ridge top windy and Summit Chair closed, but all other lifts were running, including ABC for access to upper bowls and hikes.

The last couple of days we left the main area a few times and skied Field of Dreams from the top of the Lakeview Chair down into the valley ending at Snow Crest Road.  Cold air temperatures have kept the snow powdery in this shaded area.  We had a few perfect runs snaking through the trees in a foot of untracked snow.  It was truly a dream come true skiing in the peaceful forest that I call Field of Dreams.

One of the most rewarding surprises of this week was the lack of overcrowding at Alpine Meadows.  I am not sure why the area was not more crowded over this New Year Week, but it was just right.  A nearly full upper parking lot meant there were people on the hill.  The fact that the entire mountain has been open with almost all lifts running daily, meant that slopes were not overcrowded.  People were nicely spread out.

Now we just need a new storm to drop a foot or so of nice new powder on the hill to get the New Year off to a great start.  Happy New Year to all.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
