And The Winners Are…

We actually have no idea who won the Banzai yet. But we are ready to announce the winners of the “Keeping It Alpine Meadows” sticker contest. The contest ended Friday night, and since then 8 different judges have weighed in with their thoughts. Here’s the three winners:

First Place – Michael started posting this one around the intertubes last season so it was already a crowd favorite!

Second Place – Submitted by WTH? If only there weren’t so many copyright violations in one sticker…we know this one would sell.

Third Place – Submitted at the last minute by Nikatronic so you may not have seen it yet. It certainly would make a fantastic die cut!

Back to the skiing and riding today, the forecasted storm arrived overnight, and came in a bit stronger than forecast. Temperatures were indeed much cooler today and snow was falling, albeit in very light amounts for most of the morning. An east wind kept Summit closed for the day, presenting a bit of challenge for the finals of the Banzai. ABC was running and one ride was all I needed. It was an ice rink in Alpine Bowl, and the east wind was so stiff, it was one of those days you could straight-line and the wind would keep your speed at a very safe level.

I did a variety of laps off of Roundhouse and found most of the groomed runs to be fun, until they were scraped down in a couple of hours. Off piste terrain ranged from unpleasant to unsafe. There were some scary slides for life seen on Sympathy Face and Yellow. There was a massive snow making effort going on on the lower mountain. We also noticed today that the Tiegel terrain park had been sacrificed to keep Tiegel run covered. Hopefully “Maybe March” will come through…

I have to be honest…skiing groomed runs just by myself on Roundhouse got a bit tedious today. Bailed at 11:30 as the car was a few thousand miles overdue for an oil change. The results for the Banzai have not been posted yet…will add them below when they are posted.

Our thanks to the AM Snowmaking crew and the rest of Mountain Ops for trying to keep this season alive!

  1. Men’s ski: Jesse Maddox
    Women’s ski: Shannon Rahlves
    Men’s snowboard: Chelone Miller
    Women’s snowboard: Casey Lucas
And from my perspective everyone else who skied/rode that ribbon of death this weekend.

    1. Ummm are you sure ?? Unfortunately Chloe “Chilly” Miller, younger brother of Bode passed away two seasons ago. RIP Chilly.

  2. I love all the stickers! How do we get them? And congrats to the winners and everyone who participated in the Banzai- you’re all winners!

    1. Mea culpa. And apologies to Bode & family if you all happened to see this. Perhaps my judgement has been impaired by too many apres-brewskies….nonetheless an inexcusable error considering I did indeed watch the 2 days of comps.
