There’s A Lot On The Agenda For The Weekend…Except For Snow

There’s a lot of different things going on this weekend around SquAlpine, but the heavily advertised snow for this weekend is not looking really likely. I’ve been asked a lot of times how much snow I though might fall on Sunday, and the answer is probably not much. Although the NOAA forecast shows 1 inch of snow for Sunday, it’s likely to fall after lifts close and into Monday, with most of the snow falling near Mammoth. Here’s the ensemble forecast for Monday:

We will still get the cold air and an east wind, which will likely limit skiing and riding to groomed terrain. Temperatures have trended upward for Saturday (40° with an east wind to 3o mph) and downward for Sunday (25° and mostly cloudy). Fortunately there’s some other events going on this weekend to keep people entertained.

Saturday

Rahlves Banzai Tour – Day 1 at Alpine Meadows: The venue includes Wolverine Bowl, The Face and Kangaroo Ridge

New Belgium Mountain Adventure Scavenger Hunt: Begins at 8:30 am at Squaw Valley…sounds like the sort of fun and creative events we used to have at Alpine Meadows.

Friends Of Alpine Meadows Public Meetup: Scheduled for 5 pm at the Tahoe Mill at the base of Alpine Meadows Road. A short presentation by the FoAM team, some light snacks, and a chance to win some cool prizes.

Squaw Valley Prom: Yeah, that’s happening too.

Sunday

Rahlves Banzai Tour – Day 2 at Alpine Meadows: The venue includes Wolverine Bowl, The Face and Kangaroo Ridge

So even if you’re not super stoked with the skiing and riding this weekend, there’s plenty to see and do this weekend. Valleygirl shared some pics of the course setup

      1. Mark, remember, it’s weather, don’t think ever in history any meteorologist ever’s been fired for missing a forecast. Only job u can be somewhat consistently wrong at and not get canned.

Very interesting article in the Economist mag couple weeks ago about the ECMWF and GFS.
Informative read and explains why ECMWF does a better job w forecasts.
        Cheers,
