Sunday morning has arrived and the predicted crest of the Truckee River at 5 or 6 am has not yet materialized. The front seems to be moving very rapidly. KCRA reported last night that they expected the front to clear Sacramento by noon, but it looks like it may be sooner than that.
The temps are already dropping, according to the remote sensors at Alpine Meadows. The highest temperatures at the summit only reached about 35° and are now returning to freezing. Check out the winds in the right column though – sustained winds over 80 mph with gusts up to 120 mph this morning.
Most importantly, here’s the river gauge data this morning near Truckee. The river was expected to crest early this morning at about a foot over major flood stage (for a brief time period). The current graph looks encouraging, given that snow levels are beginning to fall already. (Updated graph at 8:15).
The flood gauge graphs look even more encouraging this morning for our friends in Reno and Sparks. We’ll post updates as soon as NOAA does.
Not quite back to normal though. Squaw, Mount Rose, Kirkwood, Sierra At Tahoe and Boreal have reported in as closed today. Northstar is planning on running 6 lifts as of 7:45 if you like a snail day on the hill. Heavenly? OMG, how can you even find information on that site?
Updated at 10:15 AM:
Currently snowing in Truckee at 5950′ and here’s the updated river forecast:
