Less Snow In Near Term, But Long Range Looking More Impressive

  • by

The change in weather is about to arrive again and this time it’s looking a bit more permanent. Although the first wave is going to be a bit dryer than we hoped, there will be plenty of cold temps for mountains to get a jump on some snowmaking. All models are coming in to agreement now for roughly a foot at 7000 feet with as much as 18 inches at the Sierra crest. Most of this activity will be contained to Thursday night and Friday.

The snow to water ratio will be very high for this storm, which is not necessarily the type of snow that sets up a firm base. It’s likely that windward areas will remain scoured and leeward areas will pick up bigger drifts.

The EC longer range model posted over at TahoeWeatherBlog.com is looking better with each run. Paul’s last post indicated somewhere around 4inches of precip by month’s end. The newest model is showing more like 10 inches during that time period. Other models and forecasters are also picking up on this stormy trend during Thanksgiving week. We’ll keep our fingers crossed!
