Squaw Valley “Opening” Day For Squalpine Ski Teams Fundraiser

Here’s the proof. Squaw Valley was indeed the first to offer public lift served skiing in California for the 2012-13 season. The coverage looks better than it did at any time before January last season! The crowds by this pic seem small, but all proceeds are going to the Squalpine Team Foundation, so we hope more skiers and riders eventually showed.

Sadly, it will be another four weeks before Squaw actually opens for the season and nearly six weeks before Alpine Meadows opens. I know, they used to open way earlier when they could. But at that time pass prices were about double of what most of us paid this season. You can’t have it all. šŸ™‚ My early turns will be earned or at Boreal and Mammoth.

The e-mail from Andy Wirth was a pleasant surprise. He talked a lot about a passion for snow and snow sports, but was reserved in saying that Squaw Valley was the first California resort to open for the 2012-13 season. We applaud the humbleness (so far.) It was awesome of KSL to offer this opportunity to local skiers and riders while also benefitting the Foundation.
