Sorry, we have been sitting on this one for a while. It’s that time of year where I am doubling up on jobs to pay for a skiing addiction. The comment period for the new Hot Wheels chair has ended and as soon as that happened, some stakes went in indicating locations for new towers.
That answers some questions about the route of the new chairlift. Things will be pretty much the same on the lower half, albeit faster. There will be a right turn at the mid station, with the upper station being located somewhere between Arts Knob and the patrol shack at the top of Sherwood. We have not had a chance to get out and look for for clues there yet.
There’s mixed feelings about the easy access this will provide to the Sherwood Cliffs area and increased traffic. The word on the street is that the mid-station will be unload only. You will have to head all of the way down to reload.
The hope is to start the project in summer of 2013; we would guess that depends on how much snow we se this season. Upgrades this summer at Alpine Meadows seem to be limited to upgraded snowmaking capacity in the Hot Wheels zone, and moving ticket kiosks around at the lodge.
