We’ve quietly been working to get a new Unofficial site up and running for this season. The Unofficial Bear Valley site can be found at http://unbearvalley.com and is the fourth mountain to join Unofficial. We hope to build a strong community of skiers and riders at Bear Valley Mountain, just like we have at our other three mountains.
The Bear Valley site has been in the works for a couple of years. Times have been tough around Bear Valley. There was even some talk of closing the mountain unless a new buyer could be found. Several people contacted us about starting an Unofficial page for Bear Valley Mountain to help rally the community. Fortunately, the first bullet was dodged and the mountain re-opened in 2012-13.
While the mountain continues to operate this season, the mountain operations and the entitlements for development are for sale. There’s even some interested buyers. It seems as if Bear Valley may become the largest community owned resort in California. There is already a well organized group that is hoping to buy out the resort. It’s these sorts of efforts that will keep local resorts alive when they are forced to compete with mega-resort companies like KSL and Vail.
Former Alpine Meadows employee Oliver Kopitz has relocated to Bear Valley and will be the new writer for the Bear Valley site. He has a ton of enthusiasm and is off to a great start with the site. Thanks for spreading the word around about the new site, we’re happy to be expanding our little corner of the internet.
bravo UA!!!!
Tomorrow ze world!
My inbox is filled with blogs and facebook links already!
(Squaw should pay you the big bucks to market them properly)
the locals should update tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attractions-g32049-Activities-Bear_Valley_California.html and other review sites to help people find bear valley.
Always assume there are people who don’t know a thing within a 1-2-3 hour drive.
Best o luck.
This is a great way to promote a neighboring mountain, while trying to save it. Maybe I’ll even ski too!
If they get half decent marketers, managers and visionaries, they’ll be fine.
Hey Sun Valley and Sugarbowl have a shared season pass deal. Would a Bear Valley-China-DiamindPeak-Rose pass help them all?
