US Freeskiing Team member Brita Sigourney is another step closer to qualifying for the US Olympic Halfpipe team tonight. Sigourney got her start on the Alpine Meadows Freestyle Team and has been a dominant factor in women’s skier halfpipe competitions over the last few years. This is the second podium finish for Sigourney this month.
US Freeskiing competitors have a series of 5 events this season leading to selection of the Olympic team. At tonight’s Copper Mountain Grand Prix finals, Sigourney beat teammate Maddie Bowman, with a score of 86.6 to take the Gold medal. Tonight’s event was held under the lights in some very snowy conditions, causing a slow pipe and poor visibility for all competitors.
The next stop for the Grand Prix will be back in Breckenridge, CO. Although the third stop of the tour was scheduled for January 8th at Northstar, a lack of snow for building a competition super pipe and slopestyle course has forced the event to move to Breckenridge, which just hosted the Dew Tour. That’s a bummer for those of us that hoped to rally for Brita in person next month. We’ll be sure to keep you posted. Look for Brita’s parents, Julie and Thad, in locker room #3 after Christmas to give them a high five! Great job Brita!
WHOOOOOOOT WHOOOOOOT!!!!!!

Girls, Gold, Gotta to Alpine!
