Let’s Shake Hands

We crossed the base of The Face to take advantage of the perfect corduroy on Kangaroo. Traversing near the base of The Face was like riding a roller coaster. The moguls are large, and crossing them at a perpendicular angle offers an up-and-down ride that is really quite fun. We traversed across the creek that runs down Waterfall to reach the top of Kangaroo. You must take great care crossing this creek. There are spots where it is possible, and others that may cause you to end up in the creek. You do not want to fall into the creek. Kangaroo was not operating today, so the corduroy we skied was fresh.

With Sherwood closed, access to the Sun Bowl and Big Bend Bowl using the High Traverse was not possible today. Of course, South Face, the Sherwood Face, and Chute Zero were also not available for skiing.

Trails that remain in the shade most of the day still have a firm but chalky surface. Peril Ridge and Palisades remain in decent condition. At the base of Lower Saddle, there is still some nice soft snow left from the last little storm. I enjoy this area because the surface is smooth and quiet.

Deep snow at Alpine Meadows. Yes, along the access road to Wolverine

People often ask where the Tower 19 slope is located. Now you know where it is located.

Speaking of skiers and snowboarders, I understand that Unofficial Alpine Meadows received several unpleasant comments on my suggestion that the resort have a day without snowboarding. The comment was not meant to insult snowboarders, nor to limit the use of snowboards at Alpine Meadows. I hereby withdraw the idea and apologize to anyone who was offended by it.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Maybe we should bring some five gallon buckets and start transporting snow from the Wolverine Saddle road and carry it over to Sherwood!

  2. Curious minds on Sherwood. Broke or is the snow so bad on main run that they have given up for now ?
Was hoping to hike today but of course all closed since no lift out.
Otherwise hunting around found some nice soft spots are correct time of day.

  3. I saw that perfect corduroy on kangaroo and impressed you figured out a way to access it.
Excellent grooming continues and thank you to the mountain ops crew.
With blue skies , warming temps with no wind it made for a fine February ski day.
Now bring on the snow, please.

  4. In fairness to all, I’d like to suggest a day where both skiers and snowboarders are welcomed- as long as Everybody rides a monoski 🤠
