and Happy Holidays from UnofficialAlpine.com
That’s a gorgeous sight to see on this Christmas morning, a fresh blanket of snow covering Alpine Meadows. This time, it’s unlikely to just get rained away or melt out with the next warm spell. The remote sensors show that about 19 inches of new snow has fallen at the base area since the rain turned to snow yesterday around noon. The automated point forecast for Alpine Meadows calls for another 33 to 52 inches of snow at mid mountain by the time things wind down late Friday night. Yes, Santa has delivered.

While we are not skiing at Alpine Meadows today, in all likelihood it would have been one of those days where only Meadow and the Big Carpet opened due to high winds and avalanche danger. While I might consider doing that at Alpine Meadows, there’s no way I would do that at the place next door. My grandson Dashel is getting his first set of skis this morning and it will be joyful just to see him sliding around the yard. As Andy mentioned yesterday, I am feeling grateful that there’s food on the table and a cozy home to share with family for the holidays.
I want to take this moment to thank all of the mountain operations staff at Alpine Meadows, and every ski area, that have skipped the holiday festivities with their families. Instead they are out on the mountain, moving snow around, building roads and ramps, doing avi control and other necessary work to get the mountain ready for skiers and riders. Thank you for your efforts. We will enjoy whatever you manage to get open for us Saturday.
Cheers to all.
