Is it time to write something about the world of skiing for the upcoming season?
Yesterday I woke early in the morning to watch clear drops of water falling from the sky. We need rain, but I was hoping for snow. The air was cool, but not cold.
The upper mountain was shrouded in clouds, but I could see a white dusting at the uppermost reaches of the ski area. Although the excitement was not overwhelming, I decided to run up to the lodge and check to see what I had left in my locker at the end of last season. It did not take me long to realize I had forgotten the combination needed to open the locker. I tried every number I could think of before heading back home to see if I could locate the magic numbers needed to pry open the locker door. Eventually, I did find the combination and returned to the locker room to find a locker full of items that needed to be thrown away and devoid of anything required for downhill skiing. One more trip home to gather what I needed for the coming winter, and I felt I would be ready to attack the slopes.
Overnight, I am sure I heard raindrops hitting my windows, but when I opened my eyes, white flakes of wet snow were dropping from the sky. They were not sticking at my home’s elevation, but I could see trees with white branches at a higher elevation. Snow fell at the main Alpine Meadows Lodge overnight and into the morning. A thin layer of wet white snow covered the ground. Of course, this was not enough for skiing, but it is a start. My understanding is that we may see more weather tonight and tomorrow, along with lower temperatures. My fingers are crossed that a little more snow will fall and temperatures will drop to the point where snowmaking can occur.
In the meantime, we are heading to our local theater to watch ski movies and pray for snow. I am spending time in my real estate office spreading the word that properties are available in Alpine Meadows as well as other Truckee/Tahoe areas.
I usually do not discuss real estate on this site, but I wanted to mention a condominium located near the Alpine slopes that is for sale. This unit has 3 bedrooms plus a loft and 2.5 bathrooms. A one-car garage is also included, as are most of the furnishings. Contact me for additional information.
Enjoy your day,
Andy

It’s very strange that Palisades has taken down all of the Alpine meadows webcams, and not restored them this deep into November. Any insight on what’s going on?
The webcams are still there in some cases:
Mobile Site (via phone) ❌
Palisades Tahoe app ❌
Standard Website via my Mac ✅ (You have to click the Alpine tab)
So it seems this is more of a coding issue that was not thoroughly tested. It’s been like this a few months. It will be a bummer if not fixed when the season starts.
Interesting… it wasn’t working for me on my Mac, but then I disabled my ad blocker and now I can see the alpine cams there. Strange coding indeed.
Any idea yet what lifts / runs they might be planning to try to open next Wed? With coverage still so thin I’m skeptical. Even Gold Coast seems limited at this point, although BA says there was a foot up top and hopefully cold enough to man-make more this week….
It’s not looking great for Alpine Meadows. The temperatures are not quite cold enough and the humidity has been very high. They dint turn on the guns last night. Not sure about the other side.
Thanks Mark! With the morning fog / temps not cooperating, Jess and I may need to amend our plans for next week. Thanks for the report on what’s open at Mammoth, too. 🙂
