Wet and Empty

Hello Skiers and Boarders
We received word that the free reservation mid-week holiday parking allocations will be released Tuesday, which is tomorrow. Thank you Kris for responding to my email.

Locker room three was almost vacant this morning. There were only fools and their friends slowly dressing in ski gear this morning. We questioned our sanity as clear snow was dropping from the sky at the lodge. Yes, it was raining.

The locker room was not the only rather vacant sight this morning.  The parking lot was not overflowing.

On the positive side, today was a good day to test gear. It is always good to see if the jacket, pants, and gloves will stay dry after sitting on a wet chair. The results were varied when we eventually returned to the safety of the locker room. I was actually fairly dry, with the exception of my gloves that were soaked through and through.

Compared to yesterday when the slopes were crowded, this morning Weasel was empty.

We started our around the world tour on Roundhouse just after 9am.. It had snowed just a little bit, perhaps an inch or two at the top of Roundhouse. This wet snow assured us that our rear ends would be wet, or at least cold, by the time we reached the off ramp. Sitting on a wet chair, even though the lift attendant attempted to clean it off, is not the most pleasant way to begin a day of skiing. Riding up Roundhouse proved to be the easy part of the run. The new snow that had fallen on Rock Garden and Upper Weasel One turned out to be extremely sticky. Skiing down was more like walking down, as sliding on this particular type of wet snow was nearly impossible.

Walking along Upper Weasel One where sliding was very difficult on a sticky surface.

I think there was an urge to call it, one and done, among our silly group, but we persevered. Weasel had been groomed allowing our skis to pick up some speed. We rode TLC because peer pressure makes one do things that really should be cast aside. The ride up and ski down was not terrible, but wet. Can we go in now? Have we completed five runs? Five lift rides has been the minimum allowed within our group to be considered a day of skiing. We completed our five runs by riding Meadow, Subway, and the enclosed carpet before heading into the locker room and calling it a day.

This kind of a day may not be good for skiing, but it makes for a good story to tell to someone that did not brave the elements.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. I can’t say it was the best ski day ever, but the number of laughs was just what I needed today.

Thanks for not mentioning the coffee incident…
