Green Shirt Day

It was another beautiful day at Alpine Meadows. The sky was painted blue, devoid of any of the color gray. It was warm enough for many people to be skiing in short sleeve shirts and shorts. The number of skiers and snowboarders appeared to mimic yesterday’s crowd in terms of numbers on the hill or standing in line, especially at Summit Chair.

If you were out on the hill this morning you might have noticed a number of people wearing bright green T-Shirts. The front of the shirts read Alpine Meadows Summer Season 2023. These shirts were provided to a group of friends and family that often skied with my friend and Unofficial Alpine co-author Mark Fisher. Mark provided the shirts to us. A big thank you to Mark for his generosity to his skiing buddies.

This morning we took a couple of runs on the groomed slopes. In my opinion they were in better condition this morning than they were yesterday. They appeared to be smoother with fewer divots. It was warmer early this morning so the snow surface was softer than it was first run yesterday. After the morning runs on Sunspot and Alpine Bowl we transitioned to D6 and D7 where soft moguls warmed up our knees for the rest of the morning.

West Palisades skied well this morning

I skied the large moguls on Palisades and then scooted over to High Yellow where an additional field of good sized bumps awaited me.

High Yellow filled with soft spring corn moguls

As the line on Summit grew longer we headed for Roundhouse. Sympathy Face offered up large, but pleasant, moguls. Smooth slopes such as Werner’s Schuss, Charity, Yellow Trail, and Dance Floor offered good corn snow to those who did not want to beat themselves up in the bumps.

We made a few tours to the Tigel Chutes. This required a little hiking do to the sticky spring snow that slowed us down as we attempted to gain the speed needed to attain enough altitude to avoid hiking. The short Tigel slope offered up a few very nice corn turns. Suncups and soft moguls made up runs through Rolls and Knolls that we toured later in the morning. I always like the short turns one makes in Banana Chute.

The top of Tigel Chutes with a view to Scott Chute, the bigger brother.  Be careful when you ski in this area as Explosives are present according to the sign on the tree.

A small group of green shirted skiers including Patty, Randy, Mark, and Andy thought it would be fun to have our photo taken behind one of the terrain park features. We wanted to show our support to those who enjoy using Terrain Parks.

Enjoy your day,

  1. Nice terrain park photo you guys, but it would have been so much better if one of you was sliding the rail. Mark? Andy? Seriously, I give kudos to management here. Seems to be a good park. Well located and well used.
