Hello Skiers,
Another beautiful day has ended at Alpine Meadows. Beaver Bowl, Estelle Bowl, and even Bernie’s Bowl were open today. I did not venture to these areas. We stayed close to Summit Chair all morning taking advantage of some soft snow on Sunspot, D7, Wolverine, and under ABC Lift.
Red Ridge, Yellow, and Terry’s Return were in prime condition. It was a good morning.
Yellow Trail filled with small soft moguls
Clouds began to move in from the west just after 11am bringing increased winds. Snow was blowing around the top of Summit Chair late in the morning. This afternoon the sky is gray. We may get a little snow tonight with a break tomorrow. Winds may be strong tomorrow. Early Saturday morning the snow and wind will really kick up according to the weather gurus. By Monday there may be as much as 4 feet of new snow on the upper areas of the mountain. Saturday may be a day to stay home. If not, lift operations may be limited due to high winds and heavy snow.

If you look really hard you might be able to see the powder turns in Beaver Bowl
The Mountaineer Shuttle Service begins in Alpine Meadows on Friday. Catch a ride from your house to the lodge between 7am and 5pm Friday thru Monday. This is within the Alpine Meadows Valley. This service will also be available between Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows from 5pm to 10:30pm daily. This is a free service.
Last minute construction appears to be in full swing at the gondola base station on the Alpine Meadows end of the lift. In addition, I noticed that a construction grew was stacking lumber on the lodge deck to be used to replace the wooden picnic table tops that have warped significantly over time. Summer construction projects continue.
I am hoping Scott Chair will be turning within the next few days. We noted that the summer road to the top of Scott appeared to be cut in which is a sign that they are getting ready to open it up in the near future.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
I’m going to be dreaming tonight about that morning buff on Sunspot…soooo good.
Excellent skiing quest to be had the past two days at Alpine Meadow. Kudos to the grooming crew who does an exceptional job as always.
Yesterday I felt like I met a rockstar because we realized we were in line at Roundhouse right behind Andy Werthern and who has written our Bible for Ski Alpine Meadows for years. Didn’t want to embarrass him by asking for an autograph, but Andy, our thanks for writing your almost daily posts that keep us in the know about all things, Alpine Meadows.
Lots of activity going on at the new gondola building and I saw they were rolling the chairs for some test drives. It’s really going to happen.
Thank you Andy…
Sarah,
I am so glad you enjoy the ski commentary. By the way, your question regarding the photos. You cannot see
them on your phone according to Mark. You have to look at them on your computer. Give it a try.
See you on the hill.
Andy
Yes, we have asked very knowledgable Apple engineers about why the photos do not appear in Mail for iOS. It remains unsolved. When you are viewing the post in an email, just click the title and you will be whisked to the website in Safari and the pictures will display properly.
