Wet & Cool

  • by

Hello friends,

Typical weather for Memorial Day weekend and beyond.  This past weekend wind, cool temperatures, and precipitation put somewhat of a damper on outdoor activities.  There were plenty of people hiking to Five Lakes (way too many) and plenty of families riding the bike trail (all bundled up) in the Alpine area.  Cool wet weather has continued into this Wednesday morning.  We have been promised warmer and drier weather in the coming days.  The good news is that trails are not getting dusty which should make for excellent mountain biking and hiking at some point in time in the near future.  After a dry sunny winter, it seems silly to be waiting for nice weather in the late spring.  The rain is helping to make wildflowers smile.

We did ride our mountain bikes last Friday on a trail that has been closed, but now seems to be re-routed and open.  We rode from the Tahoe City Nordic Center to Highway 89 via the Great Race (whoop-Dee-Do) Trail, a portion of the Fiberboard Freeway, a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail, the OTB Trail, and then down the recently re-opened, Deer Creek Trail.  The riding was excellent.  There are a few sections of the Deer Creek Trail that are short, steep, and loose, but the rest of it was really fun.  The newly completed, a little rough, section of the trail has some very steep, loose soil, sections that I walked, and some pretty good sections with hillside exposure (cut into a steep hillside), but on the whole it is pretty good riding.  I uploaded the route (14 miles, 2900 elevation gain and 3400 elevation drop), to Everytrail.com (http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2146511&share=1 ).  It took us about 3 hours to complete this from the Nordic Center to my office at Alpine Meadows Road.  We ended up driving back to the car at the Nordic Center rather than riding back on the Truckee River Bike Trial.

Real Estate is moving along with inventory remaining low in many areas of Tahoe and Truckee.  Are you looking for a 3 bedroom condominium in Alpine Meadows near the slopes.  If so, I have a client interested in selling his Alpine Meadows Condominium (3 bedrooms 3 baths 1 car garage).  It is not listed on the market at this point in time.  Contact me if you would like additional information.

Enjoy your day,

Andy  Wertheim
