Construction Update

We took a quick tour of the base at Alpine Meadows yesterday afternoon. “Keep Out” signs have disappeared and fences to keep the public out of construction zones are gone. Construction is not complete, but it appears to be in the “wrap up stages” with the exception of the new maintenance building.

The gondola may not be ready to load skiers yet, but gondola cabins are hanging from the cable, and they have been seen moving along the cable between Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley.

The deck extension at the base lodge is near completion. We will still be walking up steps to the deck from the breezeway, but there will be less of an upslope between the deck, Roundhouse, and Summit as the ground between Treeline Cirque and the lodge deck is now basically level. This will allow one to walk or skate to the gondola loading area and/or Treeline Cirque. A large area of brick pavers is being laid down between the lodge and the loading area for the gondola.

The large building where maintenance and storage of the gondola cabins located between the gondola and Treeline Cirque is not complete. Siding is being installed at this point in time.

A large extension of the decking at the Alpine Chalet appears to be near completion.
New snowmaking equipment has been installed on Weasel Trail. This should greatly increase the ability for snowmaking for early openings and later closings.

Colder temperatures are on the way with the possibility of a little snow this week. It makes me want to start looking for my cold weather gear and clean the summer dust of my ski equipment.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. A reader sent in this photo of where the gondola crosses over the lodge. Originally it looked like it would just pass over the corner of the lodge. Now it appears to cross most of the east end of the lodge. That will be interesting to keep that path clear of snow in a big year.

  2. I happened to sit in the display gondola cabin sitting in the parking lot “on the other side” yesterday. It’s billed as an 8-person cabin and there are 8 slots for skis on the outside, but it’s going to be a TIGHT fit if they are all adults. Didn’t see any snowboard slots so if they go inside it will be even tighter………….
