Icy snow clinging to trees in Wolverine Bowl early this morning
13 degrees at the base and 10 degrees at the top of the mountain with a 30 plus mile per hour winds blowing made for a chilly morning on the mountain. Everyone I know added an extra layer, or put on a puffy down jacket, in an effort to keep warm. One or two stayed home waiting for warmer temperatures to arrive in the afternoon. I heard complaints about faces being cold after an early morning speed runs on beautiful soft corduroy. Speed was something to drop this morning in favor of the hunt for off-piste powder stashes. There were new tracks to be made in the Sun Bowl and Big Bend areas for those that hiked the High Traverse. On the other side of the mountain fresh tracks could found in Upper Beaver Bowl and beyond. Most of the slopes that were well skied yesterday in that fantastic fluffy powder tasted soft again today. Plenty of turns could be made in powder between yesterday’s skier tracks. We found nice snow in the trees between trails off Lakeview and Scott Chair. Scott Meadow, one of my personal favorites, did not disappoint. Standard felt smooth and soft under foot. It was a day to ski the entire mountain and be thankful that mother nature decided to gift us some snow after such a long drought.
Lake Tahoe from the top of Lakeview just before noon.
The sky varied this morning from bright sun to gray overcast. It felt like the temperature dropped each time the sun disappeared. Although the parking lots were relatively full today skiers seem to have been well dispersed as lift lines were within our tolerance level.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
I need to follow you guys … my two attempts to go off piste were met with that dust on crust scraping noise. The pow on piste was shear delight.
Low angle…with fewer moguls…
