This morning the sky was again blue and the sun shining in full view. The wind was back again over the ridge top forcing closure of Summit Chair. We were relegated to lapping Roundhouse for a good portion of the morning. However, as it did yesterday, warmth felted ice or firm snow on the south facing slopes. I tried God’s Knob around 10:30 or 11 and found it to just be softening. After our laps on Dance Floor, Charity, Blue (Werner’s Shuss), Yellow, Ladies Slalom etc., we headed to Sherwood. Zero Chute was filled with corn snow on top of various size moguls. The main run, where it had been groomed overnight, offered a smooth surface to slide on and far out on South Face looked good but I did not ski it today.
I am sure slopes on Lakeview and Scott were smooth where groomed and in fine spring condition. ABC, Kangaroo, and Yellow were not running today. Most people I ran into were smiling today and enjoying the beautiful weather even though they were wishing for a good winter storm day.
After a warm morning of skiing there is nothing like lunch and a beer on the deck at the Crest Café along the Truckee River. We headed to the Crest and found a couple of other friends doing the same. It did not take us long to make a new friend who was cute and could be and very friendly. She and her mother had biked over from Tahoe City for lunch. Some kids are shy and others are pistols and will converse with anyone in their vicinity. 3 year old Sage Sierra Weber stole our hearts. I could not help myself and took a picture of mother and daughter getting ready to return to Tahoe City on their bike. It turns of Sage is a snow boarder and shreds Alpine from top to bottom. Keep an eye out for her.
We missed you today Mark. I hope you had a great day at Mt. Rose. By the way I ran into Randy who started the day a little later than normal after driving to Mt. Rose to join you and realizing he had left his ski boots at home. People make a list of the equipment you need to travel to another area and check it twice.
Enjoy your day,
Andy Wertheim
Yep, I went on a bike ride over to Raley’s this afternoon, as the temperatures were in the low 50’s and the roads were ice free.
Weird.
