Five More Days & High Five’s TRAiNS

Alpine Meadows resumed operations today for the penultimate weekend of Tahoe lift served skiing. The storms this week kept temperatures cold and provided almost half a foot of new snow. From the sounds of it, grooming crews were able to harvest a lot of that new snow to bolster coverage near the base area. Unfortunately the new snow did interrupt the rather nice corn cycle we had going.

Reports from the mountain today were that, in general, the snow was rather sticky as soon as it got warm. That’s the problem with spring storms. The powder is fun for a short while, but then it takes a while to get things back into corny goodness. Temps remained cool until Thursday, preventing the freezing and thawing needed to promote corn growth. As of 10 pm, it’s looking like it will freeze at the top of the mountain, but not the base.

Morning update looks much better. We did get a freeze last night top to bottom, which should improve conditions today:

Nonetheless, the High Five’s TRAiNS event is on the agenda for tomorrow. Conditions should be just right for skiing & riding a few hours in the morning, then spending the afternoon hours hanging out at the Gunner’s Knob venue. The course is looking great – it’s clear that the Alpine Meadows team has put a lot of work into the lower park area over the last 4 days. See you all out there tomorrow! There’s only 5 days left to enjoy Alpine this season….
