Hello Skiers,
Merry Christmas to all. We could not ask for a more white Christmas in Tahoe. Snow and more snow falling on a daily basis is a dream come true for those of us looking for a long ski season.
Another 10 inches of snow fell on the mountain overnight giving us a few fresh turns this morning.
Line at Treeline Cirque on the morning of December 24, 2021
Unfortunately winds were very strong over the ridges and on the upper mountain causing Summit and Scott Chairs to be on wind hold. Of course this increases the length of the lines on the other lifts (Roundhouse and Treeline Cirque at Alpine Meadows). Although the lines looked horrible they did not seem terribly long to me (perhaps it was the fact that we were talking most of time as we stood in line).
I thought the snow that fell overnight was lighter than it has been the past couple of days, but as the day has progressed temperatures have increased and the snow consistency appears to be wetter than it was early in the morning when I was shoveling out my steps.
Personally, even with the winds, and lift lines I enjoyed the morning lapping Roundhouse looking for short patches of untracked snow. First run down Yellow Trail was a joy. We found places to leave tracks in the trees above the base of Alpine Bowl Chair and to the skiers right of Weasel Trail.
It is just about 1pm as I am writing this report. The sun is trying to make an appearance, but it is having a tough time.
Thank you to all the Alpine employees who are working hard to keep the mountain safe and open. More snow is on the way and hopefully our weather will allow more lifts to open soon.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
