It does not look as if we will be skiing this weekend, as there is just not enough snow on the mountain. The snowmaking crew has started making snow on Treeline Cirque. From what I could see they have made some snow above the Chalet. Below the Chalet is pretty bare. Temperatures have not been consistently below freezing.
At Alpine Meadows they are still working to complete construction of the stairs leading from the breeze way to the lodge deck. In addition they have not completed the deck extension and railings that will allow skiers to exit from the deck directly on to snow where a large level area has been created between the base of Summit Chair and the deck. Also noted is the extension of the lodge roof to cover the new stairs. I have attached a few photos taken Sunday afternoon.
If we cannot ski then we have to think of something else to do. We hiked up to Five Lakes this afternoon. The trail is basically free of snow to the lakes. A couple of photos are attached of a thin layer of ice on the lakes. I am sure the Tahoe Rim Trail is free of snow for a couple of miles from Tahoe City north.
Walking into Page Meadows should not be a problem, though you might run into muddy sections. The paved trail along the Truckee River between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City and from Tahoe City both east and south are free of snow. I enjoy walking along the river or biking the trail (it has been chilly so bring warm clothing). Some mountain bike trails can be ridden at the Tahoe City Nordic Center and in the Truckee Area.
I bet you could even drop a kayak into the lake and paddle around for a cool, but enjoyable time.
Enjoy your weekend,
Andy
Nice report Andy. Without snow in Tahoe, we traded powder chasing for chowder chasing. We headed to Bodega Bay and met some other ski buddies for some clam chowder and beach time. I highly recommend the Spud Point Crab Co. chowder! Still, I can’t wait to slide on any kind of snow!
Hi Guys, I notice the UA stickers are back in stock. I’m just wondering if they will neatly cover up the No Gondola sticker on my skis since that ship appears to have left the dock, albeit no sailing? Please advise.
Yeah, that ship did set sail. But the No Gondola sticker still has a meaning for some, as in never going to ride that thing. Yes, the current batch of stickers are 3×3 and should cover the No Gondola sticker.
Fair enough, sir. Thank you.
