Why I Love Lake Tahoe

Let’s go back to Sunday morning. It was a beautiful day with a sky empty of clouds. We took advantage of the fabulous grooming Alpine’s crew has been doing all season and raced around from one trail to the next. The surface at Sherwood softened early in the spring sunshine which meant a few trips up and down the lift. Later snow on the mountain turned sticky which is typical for this time of year when temperatures rise and the sun is higher in the sky.

We took advantage of the lovely day and decided to make the most of what we love about Tahoe. Into the lake we went for our first kayak of the season. We did not go very far, but it was just beautiful. White capped mountains surrounded the deep blue water where we were floating.

Later we greased our bikes and when for a ride along the Truckee River Trail. It felt good to be on two wheels, not that I am tired of being on two skis. Nothing like a three sport day to put a smile on my face.

Winds were strong at the ridge this morning, but Summit was turning. Scott and Lakeview were on wind hold during the morning while I was on the mountain. It was repeat of yesterday with a number of quick round trips on Summit before heading to Sherwood. The main Sherwood Run was nice and soft and not sticky for the first few round trips. I ventured out to South Face once while playing on the Sherwood side. As of 10:30 or 11:00 my opinion would have been to cross it off the list. The snow has not made the transition to corn on the steeper open slopes. It was a mixture of soft cottage cheese type snow and firm balls. Certainly not easy skiing.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. We lost you at Sherwood! We headed back to the front side and timed some absolutely perfect creamy laps on Ladies Slalom and Yellow. We then caught the third chair when Scott opened only to find perfect conditions on Ridge and Bobby’s. Today was all about timing…getting someplace just as it softened and getting a few laps in before it softened too much.
