Today we could say that the weather was a classic day of showers. Snow, dumping at times, and sunshine flooding newly whitened slopes at other times. The air temperature proved to be on the cool side as my finger tips were cold. Looking back at the NOAA remote data page I found that the temperatures were in the mid to upper teens this morning.
Early this morning, before the sun rose, snow fell onto our beloved mountain. Approximately 8 inches of nice light snow built up onto the slopes. It was deep enough to hit my waist at times as we turned our way down various slopes on the mountain. North facing slopes were the best as they were not as frozen below the new surface. Low angle slopes were most likely the next best as one did not sink deep enough to hit the firmness underneath.
After a quick and rewarding powder run down Yellow Trail we hopped onto Scott Chair. Another couple of quick and enjoyable spins down Bobby’s and Standard, before they were completely etched to death, were followed by deeper turns in Gentian Gully. We spent a lot of time visiting the Sherwood Chair breaking up fresh powder run after run.
The area was not overcrowded this morning which always makes our day happier. I would venture to say that today was one of the better days we have had on the mountain this season.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Hey that’s me in the first picture. Although the official report said 8 inches, it was definitely deeper in favored locations. I’m confident the “knee deep” was appropriate in many areas I skied this morning. Here’s to hoping champagne powder returns with the Friday storm!
I was thinking 12″ was more accurate as well. Really nice pow and the frozen scrape underneath in places served as a reminder of how nice the top was!!! Nice to see ABC running on a Monday too.
