At the opening bell I was sitting warm and dry in my office attending to some important work. Mark was on the hill taking advantage of soft creamy snow lying on top of well groomed slopes. Off the groomed, a rather wet layer of snow covered hard to see moguls that were frozen. Visibility was nil, especially in the upper bowls. This persisted all day. I headed out at noon for a couple of hours. Snow was falling the entire time, as it had been all morning. White flakes that are still falling late this afternoon are big and wet.
I had trouble seeing in the flat light while making turns this afternoon, especially in open areas where trees were not close to the edge of the run. We skied Ridge Run and Standard from the top of Scott Chair. Standard was bumpy and firm underneath on the upper section and softer with deeper snow on the bottom section. Ridge offered a more smooth surface with some scratchy areas where the morning snow had been pushed to the side. However, it was pleasant enough. We took a number of runs on Roundhouse and enjoyed the soft snow along the edges. Chicken Leg or (Chicken Thigh, Chicken Bone, Chicken Neck or whatever you might call it) located <redacted> offered us better visibility and some depth of new snow.
Thank you to the liftie at Roundhouse who swept off our chair seat before we sat down on each of our rides.
We got wet playing on the mountain, had a hard time with the visibility, were surprised by icy moguls, but we ended the short day happy that we ventured out on this stormy day. Any day on the hill is better than a day in the office.
Enjoy you day,
Andy
Yes, Samuel was on it today sweeping off chairs. Still, my rear was soaked all of the way through by the afternoon. My run of the day was likely early Roundhouse runs with fresh snow over smooth groomers…and visibility.
You make even what looks (to me) like a fairly miserable ski day sound like a good romp.
Eternal optimist as long as you are skiing down the hill!
So enjoy reading the updates – BTW we stayed warm & dry all day inside….
Well I did stay out from 9 til 2, so my outlook on the day was probably a bit more optimistic than Andy’s 🙂
