We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to say good bye to 2020. My first few runs in the few inches of snow that fell last night were pure delight. I was not skiing anything steep or out of the way, but a few turns from Tower 19 in the sun followed by soft snow under foot in Terry’s Return put a smile on my face.
Later I found varying degrees of untracked powder between someone else’s etchings in High Yellow. Powder turns could be found in the trees at the top of Treeline Cirque with views of the lake as you made the exist from Sherwood Forest. Standard Run off Scott was untracked in the trees, but they are awfully close so be careful.
I wanted to ski in Scott Meadows, but I did not have the guts to blow through the closed signs. [Editor’s note: We never encourage people to enter closed areas, even when it looks super enticing.] Honestly the snow was very good all over the mountain. It was not deep enough to eliminate moguls that were hiding just below the new surface, but who is complaining?
There was one unfortunate turn of events this morning when Roundhouse stopped running, leaving friends of mine stuck for a good long time hanging in the cold and fuming as they watched other chewing up the powder. This led to long lines on the lifts that were operating, but these things do happen.
More new snow sounds like it is on the way for the coming week which should allow the entire mountain to open, at least that is my hope for the new year.
Peace and happiness to all. Stay healthy and keep skiing.
Enjoy you day,
Andy

We got stuck on Roundhouse. It was only about 20 minutes before the diesel backup kicked in. The sun was shining. It was not very windy. The snow was sparkly. Brian S and another patroller were at the top passing out beverage vouchers. When Roundhouse finally came back online, we knew where to find the last pow stashes. No big deal for me…
