A new Covid lift line was installed this morning at the base of Roundhouse. Its purpose appears to be to give a larger number of skiers and boarders a level area to stand and wait rather than stand in a line stretched up the hill under Roundhouse Chair. The line is also designed to spread us out. Each line being approximately six feet apart.
The lines were filling up around 10:30 this morning. The lines at Yellow and Cirque remained shorter. Conditions have not changed much in the past few days as moderate temperatures and zero new snow continue to dictate the surface of most slopes. Slopes in the shade remain hard winter pack while some slopes facing south are turn to ice early in the morning. The small terrain park is being used by a number of skiers and boarders.
I was wondering how the wearing of masks by so many of us, I wish all of us, is affecting the Chapstick industry.
Lack of snow on the ground points us to other activities. Bike trails, paved for sure, are open. In Truckee some mountain bike trails are clear of snow. One certainly can walk in many areas. We wandered around Sugar Point State Park on the Westshore yesterday afternoon. Walking along the beach was a treat with very few people in sight. We saw people kayaking in Hurricane Bay.
The Resort at Squaw Creek has its ice skating rink open. A few people were skating. If you have little kids you might want to show them the ginger bread village in the lobby of the hotel or have them stuff a Teddy Bear (you pick the bear and the outfit you want and then stuff the bear). It looked like fun for a small one. I have seen a number of people fishing although I have not seen them catch anything.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
The flatter corral at Roundhouse made it easier to keep space ahead of you and behind you to maintain distance. I appreciated the change. Still the longer lines kept our ski day short. We took a drive over to Downieville to deliver a present in the afternoon.
On the covid thread, I noticed only Swiss ski resorts are open in the EU. Additionally, France is planning border checks to stop their citizens from riding there. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55157175
Does anyone know the closure criteria that Alterra will use?
I can’t speak for the weekend but I skied both resorts Friday, The snow was good and lines short but my Covid concerns were centered around people getting impatient and getting close together nce you go through the turnstiles. Once you stand in front of the turnstiles I know it is tempting to get your pass scanned and move forward, but please wait and enter once a chair departs.
Thanks Andy. Can I keep a copy of that last picture…I’ll give you credit, if I show it to anyone. Can’t wait to get out there!
