Excitement was evident on the hill this morning as word spread of an oncoming storm. Looking at the Squaw Valley App this afternoon I see that they are calling for heavy snow tomorrow. The prospects of a larger storm than was previously anticipated had some skiers taking deep breaths to slow their racing hearts. Okay, it will not be that big, but perhaps up to a foot of snow will fall which is more than we have seen in a long time.
Winds may cause a problem, but who cares as long as white flakes are falling from the sky.
It was warm again today. Spring skiing was on tap in most areas. There was a southwest wind at the ridge top which cooled the snow surface somewhat allowing conditions to soften a little slower than yesterday.
There were creamy turns to be made on south facing groomed slopes in the morning. With little variance, conditions have been similar most of the week. There are bare spots showing in different places on the mountain along with other obstacles. Please take care especially if it snows over the weekend and just barely covers these snow snakes.
Keep those fingers crossed for a decent storm.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
