If sun and blue are your favorite things, then today was another happy day for you. Excellent grooming is keeping the surface in perfect condition on many slopes. Mornings are best for those that love corduroy. The grooming crew is doing a very good job, which includes farming snow to keep mother earth and her nasty rocks from showing there heads.
An east wind was still blowing at the top of the Summit Chair which had been closed for a couple of days. The wind was cool this morning, but not blowing hard enough to keep Summit closed. However, it was retaining the very firm surface beneath tower 19. There really was no reason to ski this slope other than to prove it can be done. Small solid icy bumps offered a challenge to two of us. A photo of Mark looking good as he gingerly made his way to the bottom of this slope and the safety of lovely a groomed slope in Alpine Bowl.
I skied until noon circling the mountain. Off piste at Sherwood was turning to softer spring snow around 10:30. The surface on Outer Limits turned to sugar which is actually fun to ski. I imagine some off piste might have softened off the Summit Lift between 12 and 2, but I was not on the hill at the point in time.
It was just one of those crystal clear days when one could not even see a contrail making its way across the sky.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
I did ski until 3 pm and those frontside runs never really softened. Sweet Spot (left of Sunspot) got close, but not great. In sunnier parts, Standard Run, Outer Outer, Scotty’s Beam and Jorg’s Fantasy all skied great around 2 pm.
Thanks to you & Mark & your ongoing report I headed to Alpine today & had a good morning skiing….just as you described. Felt like our own private mountain with no crowds, and as you told us – excellent grooming made for smooth skiing under blue skies. How that grooming crew can continue to produce these excellent ski runs without new snow in weeks is astonishing – and appreciated!
