That Feeling of Being Home

Hello Skiers,
Do you ever feel as if you just arrived home when skiing a specific trail at your favorite ski area? Well this morning I felt like I finally arrived home when cutting up powder in Gentian Gully. It was not the lightest powder, as it had been sitting for a couple of days and was somewhat condensed, but it was just fine.
Scott Chair opened this morning for the first time this year which is how I arrived in the trees of the Gentian Gully Run. The mountain really felt as if it was fully open this morning. Of course Lakeview has not spun yet this year, but Scott allowed access to the lower portion of it. Some people hiked up toward the top of Lakeview to get a little more of the untouched snow on Mountain View, Scott’s Beam, and even some of Outer Limits.
Sunshine peeked through a gray sky at times this morning, but it seemed mostly gray to me. The word is that we may even get a little snow tonight.
Lakeview and Yellow Chair, rumor has it, should be turning on Saturday.
Other than a few patches of firm snow, where high winds from the previous days has blown off the newest layer of snow, the mountain is in very good winter condition. Well groomed trails and packed powder on most runs. I will say that there are some good size moguls growing in many areas.
Since few of us had been up to the top of Scott before this morning there was plenty of untracked snow to enjoy. I heard some screams of joy and saw plenty of smiles. The line at the bottom of Scott was not long which just added pleasure to my morning.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Somehow we managed to be just about a half lap ahead of or behind Andy this morning, covering several Gentian and Promised Land laps, followed by some long traverses out to the Twilight Zone. What a day! Who cares that it did not snow an inch or two?
