The Opposite Of Yesterday…Corn Harvest In Progress

  • by

Today started off quite a bit different than yesterday. The sky over Sherwood looked like this:

Blue skies and zero clouds.

We lapped the Sherwood groomers a few times and then South Face a whole bunch of times until Sherwood developed the longest lines seen at Alpine Meadows in 6 weeks, with both corrals full on each side.

After a quick lunch we followed the sun and found snow on Bobby’s and Standard that looked like this. You can see that crowding was a real problem. 😀

We followed the sun over to Lakeview for a few laps including some time on Inner Outer, which had smoothed out nicely.

After a long delay at Lakeview after someone exited the chair prematurely, we headed back to Scott, where Bobby’s and Standard still offered fresh corn corduroy at 2:30 pm. We intended to end our day with the classic spring end of the day run in The Promised Land. Instead we were lured into the virgin corn of Crag Chute. Getting there required some careful stepping and a disdain for perfect P-Tex.

The traverse to Crag Chute is getting bony.

The careful traverse and stepping paid off nicely though. I am pretty sure we put the only tracks in Crag Chute today. I only saw one track entering the chute from this week. It was a fantastic way to end the spring-like day.

Fresh corn...no tracks.

The parking lots were relatively full between perfect weather, the Tahoe League Races and $49 tickets. The slopes remained quite empty with the exception of Sherwood runs. The parks…empty as always.

There is a storm in the forecast for Thursday & Friday. Right now the best it will do is destroy the current corn cycle by adding a few inches of new snow. Hopefully it will gain strength….wash your car. Squaw Valley was probably more fun today 😉
